Welcome to Mrs. Harrison's Social studies page!
This year we will begin our journey 2.5 million years ago with “Early Humans” and travel through time to the “Exploration” era. I am excited to learn what you already know about the topics we will discuss as well as equipping you with new knowledge that you can use for the future. We will discuss how ancient civilizations were formed; and the impact their governments, religions, and discoveries/inventions have on us today in the modern world. Students are expected to come to class prepared with their notebook, textbook, agenda, pencil, paper, workbook, colored pencils, earbuds, and any other materials mentioned. Students will also use their iPad daily to access the textbook online. Homework Homework is expected to be complete by the assigned dates. If you miss class for any reason, it is your responsibility to collect the work you missed. Class behavior is to be in line with the student code of conduct found in the student handbook. Consequences will be given according to team and/or school expectations. You may find the team expectations in the Team Letter sent home in your child’s packet. School expectations and handbook may be found on the school’s website. Please be sure to check the team website for daily homework assignments! iPads Both of these classes will use Canvas to communicate some assignments and as a discussion board for various science and social studies topics. The site is designed specifically for education and to enhance the learning process. The Rock Hill School District has adopted this Learning Management System (LMS) and will be used in all classes. When an assignment is given, to be done at home, accommodations will be made for those that may not have computer/internet access. More information regarding Canvas and parent access to their child’s account will be sent home when iPads are deployed to students. Projects Throughout the year, students will be assigned a variety of projects in both science and social studies. The project information will be sent home with the student with an ample amount of time to complete the project. I do not mind if parents lend support on projects, but the students should complete their projects. Grading Daily assignments and quizzes will count once while tests and projects count twice. Students will be graded on the following: Please email me with any questions/concerns. K. Harrison [email protected] |
