Welcome to Mrs. Harrison's Science Page
Science is such an exciting course because it relates to the world
around us. In science we are going to
have a lot of fun exploring concepts in Weather,
Electricity, Machines, Plants, Heat, Forms of Energy, and Animals in our study
of science. I look forward to
working with you this year to make the sixth grade a successful year for your
child.
In science, students are expected to keep a collection of notes, warm-ups, vocabulary, worksheets, and handouts in the sections of their three-ring binder with dividers. Students also need to have graph paper to use throughout the year in science class. Throughout the school year, we will complete a variety of activities and labs in science to help teach and reinforce concepts. Safety glasses will be provided for students during necessary lab activities, and students are expected to wear them. Also throughout the year, students will be assigned a variety of projects. The project information will be sent home with the student with an ample amount of time to complete the project. I do not mind if parents lend support on projects, but the projects should be done by the students and not the parents. Homework Homework is expected to be complete by the assigned dates. If you miss class for any reason, it is your responsibility to collect the work you missed. Class behavior is to be in line with the student code of conduct found in the student handbook. Consequences will be given according to team and/or school expectations. You may find the team expectations in the Team Letter sent home in your child’s packet. School expectations and handbook may be found on the school’s website. Please be sure to check the team website for daily homework assignments! iPads Both of these classes will use Canvas to communicate some assignments and as a discussion board for various science and social studies topics. The site is designed specifically for education and to enhance the learning process. The Rock Hill School District has adopted this Learning Management System (LMS) and will be used in all classes. When an assignment is given, to be done at home, accommodations will be made for those that may not have computer/internet access. More information regarding Canvas and parent access to their child’s account will be sent home when iPads are deployed to students. Projects Throughout the year, students will be assigned a variety of projects in both science and social studies. The project information will be sent home with the student with an ample amount of time to complete the project. I do not mind if parents lend support on projects, but the students should complete their projects. Grading Daily assignments and quizzes will count once while tests and projects count twice. Students will be graded on the following: I look forward to working with you this year! Please contact me with any questions or concerns. I look forward to a wonderful year.
